Doodling is the act of drawing or scribbling to form random patterns or designs, often while thinking about something else or when bored. Similar to daydreaming, doodling helps people turn their thoughts into something more pleasurable and is uncontrolled by direction, motif or any preconceived result. Therefore, it is a form of expression that originates directly from the human subconscious unfettered by ambition, training or conceit.
In the series entited “Doodle Does it- A journey from doodles to bronze” Mary Ann Liu turned the producer’s doodles which Cyrus Yavneh had generated through countless hours of television production meetings into abstract freeform sculptures.
The concept enabled the artist to work with freedom and abandonment that lead to a sense of joy. The chosen material of bronze is to allow for unencumberment from gravity as much as possible on our planet.
In our current world of artificial intelligence where art can be produced through algorithms this series expresses works that are completely created by the human mind and the human touch.
